When I decided to join this project, I felt grateful to be invited and to be able to reconnect to my home. This pandemic has been challenging even at our best. Online communication was not new but having it as the "new normal" really burned out my passion.
Before committing to this project, I searched for a connection. Even though the internet may serve that purpose, it still did not feel genuine. This project, however, not only connected me back home but reminded me who I was and enlightened me of who I am now.
My rehearsals with Ate Len took place in zoom, once a week. The goal was to learn a movement combination that I will then perform and record on my own. The process, I would say, was progressive, careful, and meaningful. For me, I was going through both the process of reconnecting and connecting. I reconnected to my dear mentor but struggled to connect to my virtual self. Online obviously could not offer the same experience as a physical space. Although Zoom became a vessel of information, a virtual space where I learned and took all the information I had to bring to another space-A space in my actual reality-, it felt freeing yet limiting. Freedom of your own space, however, is limited to the screen. The release of your body is, however, limited to your weaknesses. This project, I feel, truly reflects our lives currently and how we strive to handle and deal with these circumstances.
